Master of vacation injuries
I have to say that I'm the queen of ruining a vacation with injuries. I once visited friends and family in Houston and decided to go to the beach with a friend. Somehow, I managed to completely sunburn the tops of my feet and wasn't able to walk for the last few days of my trip. Needless to say, it was one of the worst experiences of my life, pain-wise and I wasn't able to do any of the things I wanted to while visiting my parents. I felt bad since there was stuff my mom wanted to do with me (i.e., go shopping) but since I wasn't able to walk without crying...
Anyway, I decided to go for a jog today since I've been eating like a pig for the past couple of days. Big mistake. I was jogging in the neighborhood around my bro's house when I twisted my ankle on the uneven pavement and totally pitched forward. It seemed to happen in slow motion. I felt my ankle give, and tried to steady myself, but my ankle was already weak from a previous injury sustained about a year ago. Unfortunately, rather than just crumpling to the ground, my forward momentum kept me going and slide the right side of my body across the ground a little bit. Ow. (On a positive note, I had my mp3 player in the protective case, so even though it slide 5 ft across the ground, it remained relatively unscathed. Big ups to the designers of the Zen Micro player!)
So after sitting on the ground, holding my now throbbing ankle for about 10 min, I tried to make my way back to my bro's house. It was the most surreal experience. I couldn't focus my sight and kept feeling light-headed, like I was going to pass out - I think I was dehydrated. It seemed like forever before I got home. I even contemplated flagging down a passing car to drive me back. NEway, I slowly made my way back and am now sitting here covered in band aids and icing my swollen, purple ankle. Guess it's back to physical therapy I go...
Moral of the story is bring a cell phone with you wherever you go!
And don't travel with me unless you bring a complete first aid kit!
