Draft talk

One of the things that I miss about my previous job is the conversations about random topics - ranging from sports news to reality tv shows. The new job isn't really conducive to water cooler talk as everyone has their own office and tends to hide in them (or maybe other people are actually doing work...). I'm starting to think that maybe I prefer the open trading floor set-up.

Anyway, I'm sure the guys at the previous job are talking about the draft today. It's on everyone's radar right now. The more obvious questions are - why did Houston pass on Bush? Is Williams going to perform up to expectation - enough to justify passing on who some believe will be the most explosive RB in the NFL today?

Defense wins games. That's what I've been told again and again. And obviously the Texans D needs a little work (ok, a lot). I've never watched Williams play but from what I've been reading, his performance was inconsistent over the past 3 years. I think if Williams can develop his skills and play on a more consistent basis, he'll be a contributing asset to the team.

On the offensive side, Houston has some decent talent in D. Davis, A. Johnson and the new addition of E. Moulds. I think adding Bush to the line-up would have sold more tickets but would it bring Houston up from the bottom of the barrel? I'm going to stick by their decision and believe that firming up the D is going to make a bigger impact.

This is the first year that I've really paid attention to the draft and I assume that most of these rookies will be warming the bench for the 1st year. However, you never know. Any given Sunday. These are the things that I'll be watching out for this season -

- Did Oakland make a good decision by passing on both Leinart and Cutler? Is Brooks going to produce?
- Same question for the Jets. Is Pennington going to stay healthy or is Ramsey going to perform once Chad realizes that his career is over?
- Is McNair going to Baltimore and Young getting the starting position by default? Is Young ready for the intensity of the pros? I don't think there's a question that he needs a lot of work to get to the NFL level.
- Is Indy going to be hurting now that Edge is gone? Has Joe Addai been designated the new feature back and if so, can he fill those shoes?
