Head of the Charles

I'm planning a quick trip to Boston next weekend for a friend's wedding reception. I hadn't yet arranged for a place to stay and was told that next weekend was the Head of the Charles event. I had never heard of this tradition and was told that it's a significant occasion in Boston and that hotels are most likely fully booked. Alarmed, I started searching for a possible hotel room. Strangely, it looked like all hotels had availability. When I googled the event, I discovered that it takes place in October.
