Disposable memories?

During another restless night of sleep I dreamt that myself and a few other people that I lived with were all involved in some espionage type job. It turns out that hit men were coming after us, so we had about 30 minutes to pack anything that we didn't want to leave behind, knowing that we could never come back. I remember packing most of my clothes out of necessity and then thinking about all the personal items that I didn't want to leave behind.

I'm sure most people have thought about what they would grab if there were a fire or some other devastating emergency requiring evacuation. Of course I'm not advocating that people stop and grab things as the smoke and flames are engulfing them, but it's hard to part with sentimental items. Living in NY I've learned to (or been forced to) minimize and consolidate. I don't have that many items around my apartment that I would be lost without. I would grab my external hard drive (where all my pictures are stored) and I think that's it. Everything else I could replace.
