Amy Ruth's

I got in touch with my inner Southerner for dinner last night. A group of friends made the trek out to Amy Ruth's in Harlem for some good ol' fashioned soul food. I ordered the Rev. Al Sharpton, a side of fried okra, and a lemonade. The fried chicken was very good, with a perfectly crispy outer layer and tender, moist chicken on the inside. The fried okra was a bit of a surprise as they serve the okra whole as opposed to the cut up pieces that I'm accustomed. The lemonade, however, was a whole different story. It was so sweet that I diluted it with an entire glass of water but the flavor didn't seem to change one bit. It was very refreshing in the beginning but made me feel ill by the end of the night. The same comments were made by people that ordered the sweet tea and I hear the KoolAid of the day is the same. Apaprently they like their drinks with a side of diabetes there.

The customer at the table next to us whole heartedly endorsed the mac n'cheese and his Sheila Thomas order looked pretty tasty as well. I'll have to try those next time...
