Lately I've been trying to take advantage of all the activities that I've been meaning to do since I moved here. A few weekends ago, on the way to Atlantic City, I finally made a quick trip to Philly to sample the infamous cheesesteak. The group that I went with decided to be ambitious and have a tasting test of 3 different cheesesteak shops in Philly - Steve's, Jim's, and Pat's. These particular shops were chosen as among the best in Philly and differed from each other in the way that the meat was prepared and served. I thought that the first place would be my favorite, as I was salivating uncontrollably by the time we arrived in the city but Jim's, which was the second stop, was probably my favorite with Pat's, the final shop, coming in a close second.
The following weekend was a quick day trip to Washington DC. The trip was one that I won't soon forget. The entire trip lasted about 28 hours, and about 16 of those hours were spenting walking around the Tidal Basin... or at least that's how it felt. I learned that it is entirely possible to spend an entire day walking around yet staying within a 2 mile radius.
The Cherry Blossom Festival was quite a sight to be seen. I don't know how crowded DC usually gets, but the masses were certainly out for the first weekend of the festival. Other than seeing the blossoms and snapping off a few photos, I didn't sample that much of the festivities. I'll need to make another trip down there to see the rest of the touristy traps and museums as well. It was a fun getaway despite the cold and long hours of walking in the same circle. ;)
Next on the semi-local list to do/see:
- Montreal
- Niagara Falls
- Rhode Island
