Caught

For those of you that know me, I sometimes go by Dr.C since I like to self diagnose any health issues. I'll go to the doctor, but I'm still a bit of a skeptic and trust my own judgment more (despite the fact that I haven't taken any science courses since high school).

Last week, I went to see my orthopedist about my knee to make sure there was nothing structurally wrong. It's been feeling a bit better, but I wanted to be on the safe side and get some x-rays. He basically told me that my patella had shifted a bit due to over-stressing my knee because my muscles weren't strong enough for the exertion I had been placing on the joint lately. But overall, things were ok. He prescribed 6 weeks of physical therapy and told me to lay off jogging for a while, at least until my follow-up appointment in a couple of months. I decided to hold off on the PT and do my own leg exercises in the gym, which I think have been working as my knee has been feeling better.

Given that, I decided to run a 5 mile race this morning, thinking I would be ok. My knee held up pretty well, but at the finish line, guess who I ran into (not literally of course). Yes, my orthopedist. He definitely saw me and looked directly at me. But given the number of patients he has, I don't know if he could place me. I, of course, looked away quickly and walked off. I hope he doesn't remember exactly who I was so that when I go in for my follow-up, I don't hear an "I told you so."
