Confessions of a Pixar shareholder
I bought shares of Pixar (which has now been converted into Disney stock) a while ago. For the past couple of years, the annual revenues were pretty much solely dependent on public reception of The Incredibles (i.e., box office records, DVD sales, royalties, etc) since nothing new was being released. I was a bit nervous, being a shareholder, but after seeing the movie, decided to hold onto the stock. Then I heard rumor about their next release, a movie called Cars. They released short previews last summer and when I saw them, I was troubled. I didn't think the company would be able to weather poor box office showings and the previews didn't strike me as a movie that would appeal to any non-male audience over the age of 5. I nervously kept my eye on the stock ever since and have debated on a sell target for a while.
However, as the release date approached (comes out today), the buzz had been overwhelmingly positive for this movie. While I won't be one of the first in line to watch it tonight, it's definitely got me intrigued and I'll be buying a ticket at some point. And not just because I have a vested financial interest.
